2026-09-11T04:16:39 Firstyear (Firstyear): So what’s the best way to request something like this? I expect it’s not just “mention it on matrix.” In the SUSEID world, using traefik with the Authentik middleware is super easy for this case. 2026-09-11T04:17:44 jeff_mahoney: I'd say open a ticket here https://progress.opensuse.org/projects/opensuse-admin/issues 2026-09-11T04:19:20 But I'm not super involved on that side, acidsys would have the best answer. 2026-09-11T05:55:05 Firstyear: I sort of stopped participating in this discussion, as with every new person the context seems to reduce 2026-09-11T05:56:09 simply opening the website and trying out the Login button would show that there already is an authentication system natively in the application 2026-09-11T05:57:01 but, if someone wants to maintain some crazy solution, I can't stop them 2026-09-11T06:16:45 Fair enough :) 2026-09-11T13:37:54 I see, so it's less about adding authentication and more about not allowing new posts without it. 2026-09-11T13:47:19 the problem is that enforcing login will make paste more or less useless (it becomes annoying, and there are lots of pastebins out there that don't need a login - but don't ask about privacy, ad-free etc...) 2026-09-11T13:47:50 as a random example: I know that even Canonical employees prefer paste.o.o because paste.ubuntu.com requires them to login 2026-09-11T19:09:23 Yes, I'm sure people find a completely anonymous way to post arbitrary material on a service they don't maintain super useful. We've had problems with people posting stolen credit card information, illicit images, etc. Fedora doesn't host a paste service anymore. Debian's is broken. Canonical's was authenticated before they shut it down. The service (and etherpad) as they are now are a liability.
